Buying and Placing Garden Sculptures
If you’re lucky enough to have a large or extensive garden, what’s better than placing a selection of statues or other larger garden ornaments in its nooks and crannies? Imagine your grandchildren exploring and finding a large stone dragon or a petrified fallen angel hidden in some secret corner, and imagine just how magical it would make your garden. Garden sculptures come in all shapes and sizes, from replicas of the most famous historical statues such as Michelangelo’s ‘David’ or ‘Venus De Milo’, or more modern pieces such as Auguste Rodin’s ‘The Thinker’ and other famous neoclassical sculptures. You could also choose from a range of mythological beasts including dragons, griffins and gargoyles or fantastic characters such as gnomes, elves or even the grim reaper!
Even if you don’t have a large garden or a garden at all, you still may find room for a garden sculpture in your life.
Even a small back yard has room enough for a modest statue such as a Buddha or one of the more contemporary garden statues such as a sunburst or twisted vortex. Also many an unused fireplace is home to a modest stone sculpture too, meaning that many garden statues and sculptures are also suitable for indoor use, and why wouldn’t they be? The only thing which determines where a sculpture can or cannot go is its size, but also bear in mind if your placing of garden sculptures will have an impact on your neighbours too. For example, putting a large semi nude statue in your front garden may draw some unwelcome comments from neighbours or passers by, so it’s always worth considering what may or may not be deemed as acceptable in your neighbourhood.
Garden sculptures need not be either human or animal figures as sundials, lamp posts, stone roses and a plethora of contemporary sculptural shapes are also available. Many of these more modern garden sculptures make a great talking point and could even be considered inspiring. It’s not uncommon for corporate offices to feature a piece of contemporary sculpture in their grounds. Often these can also incorporate a water feature to give a sculpture the added dimensions of movement and sound. Whatever type of garden ornament you choose, be it a garden statue or something a little more abstract, make sure you place it with care, as simply plonking a new sculpture by your patio doors will not do it any justice.
