ﻉ√ﺎ٥√ﻉ asks: Where can I get two 55 Gallon Plastic Barrels? Clean or with non-toxic residue in them, the cheeper the better?
I need to get two, 55 gallon plastic barrels for use in rain water collecting in my friend’s “Organic Garden” and I heard you can get them for free or cheep SOMEWHERE, but not where!
We are in Chicago, IL USA.
They need to be either clean or used to store non-toxic substances that can be washed out, i.e. they didn’t soak in to the plastic and will leach back out in to the water.
Does anyone know anywhere I might be able to get these?
Thanks!

Look for a business that sells supplies to other businesses. One that sales products for car dealerships or farms. Tell them what you are looking for. If they don’t have them, they might know someone who does.

Google plastic barrels. Many listings come up. You should be able to find one locally to get them.
RESTAURANTS and COMMERCIAL JANITORIAL SUPPLY COMPANIES!!
I got two 55 gallon pvc type barrels that I made into a DIY rain catchment system, by calling around to restaurants and janitorial supply companies.
The restaurants get salad oil and vinegar in these 55 gallon pvc drums. What you want to ask for is the 55 gallon drums that only held vinegar, preferably. You can pressure wash the insides out, but, don’t worry if some of the vinegar residue still remains, because it is not harmful to plants. In fact, it’s one way to provide additional acidicity to your soil, if needed.
As for janitorial supply companies, make sure that the drums only held BIODEGRADABLE, NON-TOXIC chemicals. One of my 55 gallon pvc barrels came from a janitorial supply company that held such non-toxic, biodegradable chemicals, and I have been using it in my rain catchment system for over a year now, with no problems affecting any of my plants, EVEN my tropical plants, which are chemical-sensitive!
GOOD LUCK, and I applaud you for keeping such items out of our landfills, by recycling these items :))
P.S. By the way, below is a website which has a simple plan for making a water catchment system using these pvc drums .
