Is Your Garden Shed Stocked With All The Essentials?

If like me, you are an enthusiastic gardener, you will no doubt want to make sure that you have all the best tools and equipment for your outdoor areas and there is no better place to store them all than a handy garden shed, assuming you have the room for one!

A shed provides you with a dry space to store everything conveniently close to where you will be working and there won’t be any need to trample mud and dirt through your house. However if you are only going to keep a couple of trowels in there you’d be under utilising it.

The best shed is packed full of useful equipment. Not sure exactly what you need for your garden? Here are a few of the essential tools and equipment that I’d say all gardeners need.

Water Hose

If you aren’t lucky enough to have water sprinklers, you will probably have a gardening hose. This is important for watering your plants and vegetables in the summer months. Remember, water in the morning or late afternoon but not when the sun is at it’s strongest.

You will find that hosing everything will save you a lot of effort that you would have used had you only had a watering can! You’ll find a garden hose reel invaluable in the long run as it makes transporting and storing your garden hose much easier.

Some people leave their hose outside, but it’s actually a better idea to keep it in your shed. Not only does it protect it from any potential burglars, but it can also protect it from the weather and stop the metallic parts going rusty.

Weed Killer

There is nothing worse than a garden full of unsightly weeds, so there is no wonder why weed killers feature in abundance in many expert gardeners’ sheds. Ideally, you should try and find a natural weed killer that won’t do any harm to any of your garden’s wildlife.

This is very important to remember if you have pets, as some weed killers can be toxic to them as well.  Locking these in your shed also reduces the chances of children finding them.

Sharp Pruners

If you have fruit bushes in your garden, you will already know just how important it is to always have sharp pruners and loppers handy. Pruning any type of bush is important as a matter of fact, as it can help encourage flowers to grow on the branches.

Make sure that your set of pruners are always kept inside in your shed so that they don’t rust if it ever rains.

Composter

You could buy compost from your local gardening centre, but you will find that it is a lot cheaper to make it yourself; your shed is the perfect place to keep your composter. You just need a large metal bin in which you can put all your organic gardening waste and food scraps.

Keep adding to this bin and overtime all of the organic matter will decompose and turn into compost that you can spread on your garden. You will find that a lot more compost is created during the summer when it gets warmer in your shed. All that heat will speed up the composting process!

Once you add all these items to your shed, you will find that your gardening skills greatly improves!
