Protect Your Garden From The Hot Sun

As a gardener, I love when summer arrives. It means I can spend hours outside in the fresh air tending to my garden with the added bonus of being able to host a wealth of garden parties.

However, while there are lots of benefits to the summer sun, there are also some downfalls for your garden. The hot sun can cause a wealth of problems which can ruin your plants and your outdoor furniture.

In fact, you need to make some tweaks now, so problems don’t occur down due to the sun.

Paint wooden furniture with sealant

It’s always ideal to get some outdoor furniture to enjoy during the summer months. After all, your family can then sit outdoors all day long. And it’s a great way to enjoy a relaxing time in your garden.

A lot of people go for wood furniture for their garden. After all, it adds some character to your yard. And it often looks fantastic when placed on a patio or decking. However, if you do want to have wooden furniture in your yard, you should consider using some form of sealant.

You don’t want the wood to get discoloured down to hours in the sun resulting in your beautiful new and probably expensive furniture could get ruined by the time summer is over. Therefore, paint it with a sealant to ensure it protects it from the UV rays. You’ll find it can be useful for the autumn months too. Most sealants are often water resistant so the rain won’t damage it either.

Get a fence with built-in UV protection

A lot of people forget about the fence when it comes to protecting it during the summer months. After all, they don’t realise how much damage the hot UV rays can do to their lovely fence. For one thing, if it’s wood, the UV rays can cause it to fade so you could end up with a discoloured fence and if it’s made from PVC, you might find it rots or peels after too much time in the sun.

Therefore, to ensure this doesn’t happen, consider a new fence with built-in UV protection. There are a lot of companies out there who do these fences; you can even visit Florida Fence for more options of fences with good UV protection which will ensure it lasts during the summer months.

Keep your plants watered to prevent dehydration

It’s so easy for our plants to get dehydrated after they have spent hours in the sun. And once they are dehydrated, they might start to wilt and die in our garden. To ensure this doesn’t happen, you need to make sure you give them plenty of water during the summer. You should water them twice a day when the weather is at it’s hottest and remember, if you are headed on holiday, it might be worth looking into a sprinkler system.

That way, it will ensure they stay hydrated when you are not around to water them yourself.

Remember to get some shading for your garden, not only can it protect your family from the sun but it will keep your plants safe too!
