Can I grow a vegetable garden if my lawn has been sprayed with pesticides?

green12 asks: Can I grow a vegetable garden if my lawn has been sprayed with pesticides?
I just moved into a new house. I really want to grow a vegetable garden in my backyard but I was told that a lawn company that the previous owner hired recently sprayed the lawn with pesticides. How long do pesticides last? Will it be safe to grow a vegetable garden at all? Thanks.

  1. as long as it was sprayed before. thats how they grow things on farms, so its safe.

  2. I wouldn’t risk planting a garden now, Some companies do go the natural route to spray, but I highly doubt it the owners did.I would do a boxed vegetable garden .. It can take several years to get your lawn back to its natural state depending how long your previous owners been getting their lawn sprayed. I wouldn’t want you risking your health by planting now. You can always get your lawns soil analyzed by a professional to be safe.
