jciniello asks: Novice Gardener Needs Advice?
I have always been very interested in gardening and have recently decided to give it a try. I live in the northeast section of the U.S. (New Jersey to be exact) and was wondering what type of required reading I should start off with. Please keep in mind that I need to start with the very basics.
Thanks

Books are the best place to startwith. Go to your local library. You will surely find some good books to get you strated.

Gardening is a practical thing. You will learn more when you actually dig the soil. Books can give you the background information, but in the end all gardeners learn from trial and error.
you can never go wrong by asking your extension agent of calling the ag dept at your state collage. Also you might try asking at good greenhouses. These will help as well as reading books. You might also ask the extension office at your court house who the master Gardner’s in your area are.
