Amazing Malampuzha Garden and Dam Landscape

Malampuzha garden and dam is located in Palghat, locally known as Palakkad. The beautiful garden and dam are present at the lower slopes of the Western Ghats. The place is surrounded by the lusty green environment of the garden. The greenly footage is nourished by the Kerala state’s longest river “Bharathappuzha”.Malampuzha Dam
The dam is considered, as the mini sized “Hydroelectric” project across the Malampuzha River in Palghat. This dam was built in the year 1955. It is the biggest irrigation dam in the Kerala state. The water facility for crop cultivation in the state is from this dam.
Malampuzha garden
The evergreen garden and a scenic green lawn attract the tourists, who enjoy the harmony and appeal of the place. This garden is known as “Brindavan” of Kerala. The stunning beauty of the garden lies in the illuminated lights during the Saturday evening, blossoming flower beds, sway pools and water fountains.
Major Attractions
There is wide range of entertainment available in the Malampuzha dam and garden. Its enchanting beauty attracts more number of visitors every year to this place. Some of the entertainments are:
Fish shaped aquarium is built with artistic structure enabling the visitor to see wide range of fishes.
In the Snake Park you can see wide range of saw-scaled viper, Russell viper, and hump-nosed pit viper and king cobra. Rare species of brown vine snake and Fortson’s cat snake. It was set up by the government in the year 1984.
One can have a glimpse of the beautiful garden from the hanging bridge across the river.
Ropeway journey is like the rope car that takes the passenger from one end to another to see the aerial view of the garden.
Telescopic tower in the garden gives terrestrial view of this greenly paradise.
Road train is provided by the management to take the visitors around the park. All the compartments of the park are in toy shape.
Japanese garden is a small sized garden in the Japanese style Thread garden is a marvellous work of several persons to create the garden with the help of embroidery threads.
The rock garden is built by using unwanted pieces of bangles, plastic cans and other waste materials.
Fantasy park contains many adventurous rides
Statue of Yakshi is sculptured from a single rock.
How to reach there
Malampuzha is located just 10 km from the Palghat town in North Kerala. Palghat roadways are well connected with major cities like Chennai, Bangalore, Cochin, Trivandrum, and Kozhikode. Booking of bus tickets online is possible through the Kerala state road transport corporation (KSRTC). So, you can buy bus tickets easily without big hurdle through online bus tickets booking system.
Nearest airport is Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. This is located 55 kms away from Palghat. Another airport located in Kerala is Cochin International airport. Nearby railway station is Palghat junction.
Tourist Information
The garden and the dam are opened for public from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. There are many hotels located around this place, which provides spacious rooms and other facilities for comfortable stay. Best time to visit Malampuzha is from September to May.
