A patio is the perfect place to dine outside. It essentially gives you an extra ‘room’ in your home when the weather is nice, and means you can really make the most of your garden. So if your patio is looking worse for wear- whether it’s weedy, the slabs are cracked or your decking has seen better days- why not give it a revamp? There’s still plenty of good weather left this summer, and so if you get a move on you won’t have to wait until next year to reap the rewards of your hard work.
Clean Up What You Have
If your patio area is still in fairly good nick, you might be able to get away with just giving it a clean and tidy. Pull up any weeds that have grown between slabs and replace the odd broken one to restore your paved patio area. Decking could be washed down with a pressure washer and given a fresh coat of oil, stain or paint to bring it back to life.
Go For Something New
If you don’t currently have a patio in your garden or what’s there is in total disrepair, it might be worth clearing the area and starting again. Have a think about the types of materials you want to use to build your new patio area. You could lay down some slabs for a simple paved area, put down a barrier and add some pea gravel or even build up a decked area if you’re a bit more handy when it comes to DIY. Composite timber decking is a fantastic choice since it doesn’t rot and there’s no need to sand, oil or paint it. Perfect if you’re all about low maintenance. Choose Furniture
Once your patio area is sorted, the next step is choosing furniture. After all, the whole idea of creating a patio is to give you an extra living space! Choose furniture based on your lifestyle and the types of things you’ll be doing in the garden. For example if you’re a small family that likes picnic style dining in the summer, a small picnic table with a parasol might be sufficient. If you plan on hosting large garden parties and barbecues, you might need to opt for something bigger with plenty of extra chairs. On the other hand you might just want to sit out in the garden with a glass of wine or a cup of tea. In that case a bench, an outdoor sofa or a swinging seat could be your best bet.
Accessorise
To liven up your patio area, there are lots of ways you could accessorise. Large plant pots full of flowers, solar lights and even outdoor rugs can look great and bring a homely feel to the space. You could string up some bunting, and get some large outdoor cushions and beanbags that can be put in the shed when they’re not being used. You could even add a gazebo or pergola over the top and plant some climbing flowers to wind around it. Beautiful!
