That one guy asks: Small space gardening?
I live in an semi urban area of my city, and I am interested in growing rather expensive plants in my own garden, I was planning almost all edible plants, and I want to grow them from heritage seeds. I live in Florida, and also would like to try to grow watermelons.
If possible, I’ll be using compost for fertilizer and rainwater for irrigation.
I may or may not use containers for the garden
Any advice?

Watermelon in a small space is hard but try to find a bush variety, and watch out for rodents, they will know the fruit just a little then walk away and it will rot on the vine. If you grow tomato’s use a cage, its better than staking. To save water remember, you only need to water the area where the roots are, not the entire plant. Good luck.

Would you ever consider small greenhouses?
If you’re planning expensive plants, it may be a good way to protect them from whatever may try to destroy or eat the plants before you’re able to harvest.
Although I’ve not personally done businiess with them, there’s a wide selection of small greenhouses shown available at this site:

one of the most important things to bear in mind if you have a small garden is ;
don’t forget that you can go up!!
Use trellises and the like to encourage plants to climb.
Also mix flowers and vegies and herbs etc.
watermelons are fun to try but do tend to need more space
