Whether you do it intentionally or not, the design of your house most likely follows a theme.
This could be purely accidental – your penchant for a particular style perhaps took over without you even realising it, and now your whole home is decorated in much the same way. Alternatively, you could have purposely gone about implementing a theme in each of your rooms, showcasing your love for certain interiors.
When it comes to themes, it isn’t just the inside of your house you can have fun with. Why not consider showing some love to your garden as well and transform it with a theme?
This can make the whole space much more attractive and inviting – not to mention great for guests. With so many of us now using our gardens as a place to socialise, having a theme in place can give it that extra edge the space so desperately craves.
Not sure where to begin? Take a look at these garden theme ideas that you may want to try in your backyard.
Japanese Garden
Are you a lover of all things pretty and delicate? If so, a Japanese style garden could be the perfect design for you.
Typically, Japanese gardens are created to be a centre for meditation and reflection, which is partially what makes them so relaxing. Obviously, it isn’t always possible to create a truly authentic Japanese garden, especially if you don’t live in a humid climate.
However adding certain elements, such as a rock garden and allowing soft moss to flourish, can certainly set you on your way. When it comes to flowers, opt for soft colours that aren’t too garish. A delicate tree such as a cherry blossom is also a great focal point for the centre of your Japanese garden.
Traditional English Garden
Although it is a country famed for its inclement weather, England also boasts some of the prettiest garden styles around. Think quaint countryside cottages, farmhouse gardens and of course the ubiquitous stately home. All three have beautiful designs that are relatively easy to recreate at home.
Opt for hard wearing evergreen shrubs, and if you have the room, a regal tree such as an Oak tree can make a stunning centrepiece. It isn’t only plants that can help to create your English garden vibe, however.
Globe Fixtures can look perfect in your traditional pole lighting, which can give your outdoor space a soft glow even as night pulls in. You may also want to add a traditional stone statue, to push that stately home look.
Minimalist garden
If there’s one trend that’s been everywhere recently, it’s the minimalist look. Your house may have already received the stripped-back treatment, so why not do the same for your garden.
Start with trimming down your lawn and removing any overgrown or dead plants. Implement a basic colour scheme and stick to it – just two primary colours should work perfectly.
Add in some sleek modern features like a stylish water fountain or a section of decking, and you’ll have a cool and classy space for you and your family to relax in.
